After launching Galaxy J6 in the budget segment Samsung is back with a brand new Smartphone that is Galaxy J8 which just like J6 carry the latest 18:9 aspect ratio Super Amoled infinity display but what make J8 different is the presence of dual rear Cameras at the back which makes it the first phone from Samsung under twenty thousand rupees with dual rear cameras. First infinity display with J6 and now dual rear Cameras looks like Samsung is finally realizing its mistake. So without wasting any time, let’s talk about pros and cons of J8.

Pros:

  1. Dual Rear Cameras: The biggest USP of the Galaxy J8 is the presence of dual Cameras at the back which is also the first time in J series. Samsung’s J series is known as a budget series and it used to the best selling series few year’s back. Looks like Samsung is finally correcting his mistakes now. Galaxy J8 has 16MP (F1.7) + 5MP (F1.9)Dual rear Camera setup with features like Live Focus, Portrait Backdrop, Portrait Dolly and Background Blur Shapes. The secondary 5MP Camera will do the depth sensing. J8 also has 16MP (F1.9) front shooter which just like most Samsung phones provide decent results. You can also adjust the sensitivity of the front flash manually like we see in J6.

  1. Display: J8 has a 15.36cm (6”) HD+ display. There are basically two things good about the display of J8. First, it’s a Super AMOLED display which means bright and punchy colors. the sAmoled display is comparatively better than normal LED screens. Second, it’s a modern 18:9 aspect ratio display which means more screen to body ratio.

  1. Experience UI: Many people prefer stock android while many like the feature rich Non-stock android experience. Galaxy J8 has Samsung’s Experience UI over latest android Oreo version. So in J8 you gonna get all the Samsung UI feature plus it also has Samsung Mall, Samsung Pay mini, Chats-over-video and face unlock features which will enhance your overall experience.

  1. Memory and Processor: Now some people gonna say we can get same RAM and processor under 10 thousand then buy pay 7 or 8 thousand more. Well, my friend, you cannot get a Snapdragon 450 and 4Gb Ram along with 64Gb internal memory in a Samsung phone. If you considering a Samsung phone then this is the best you can get under 20 thousand. It’s way better than getting a two-year-old Exynos processor. Another good thing about the phone is the presence of dedicated micro SD card slot. I like the way Samsung provide two SIM slots one for SIM 1 while other for SIM 2 & Micro SD which will make switching SIMs easy.

  1. Brand Value: Samsung may be selling fewer phones than Xiaomi in India but my friend its earning way more than all the Chinese companies combined. When you buy a Samsung phone you get that brand value, People gonna look at your phone with some respect. Plus after-sale service of Samsung is extremely better than other brands. If your phone gets damage you can easily get it repaired from nearby Samsung Care. Plus if you buy this device before the end of July 2018 then you get a 9-month one-time screen replacement offer.

Cons:

  1. Price: Although it’s the best from Samsung in the budget range but its still overpriced. 18,990 for J8 is still not justifiable even after 2000 rupees cashback which you get if you purchase it from Paytm mall or use ICICI bank card on other e-commerce sites its bit overpriced. Samsung should have launched at around 15000.

  1. HD+ instead of FHD+: Display is the biggest highlight of this phone but Samsung has done some cost cutting here by providing an HD+ display instead of Full HD+ display. For a layman spotting, this difference would be difficult and that’s why Samsung did this. With HD+ display using this phone under direct sunlight gonna be tough.

  1. Slow Face Unlock: Face Unlock is the latest trend in the market, ever since Apple launched iPhone X the demand of face unlocks is huge in android devices. J8 also has face unlock but its quite slow. It works just fine and didn’t unlock your device if your eyes are close but its slow. So you have to rely on rare fingerprint sensor for faster unlocking.

  1. Plastic body: Unlike most smartphones of this price range J8 has a plastic body with metal like Paint job on it. It looks like metal but its plastic.

  1. No fast Charging: Most smartphones at this price point support fast charging these days but in J8 you get nothing like that. In the box, you get a slow charger along with cheap earphones. Samsung very cleverly skips mentioning which version of gorilla glass they had used in the phone. Apart from these use of Snapdragon 450 at this price point is not justifiable due to old processor this phone will not have true dual VOLTEE support which means you will never be able to use two Jio SIMS simultaneously.

J8 may have lots of Cons but its the best from Samsung in this price range and if you are a Samsung fan then this phone would be the best alternation for you. You can also consider this phone for your parents but if you are looking for a value for money or performance beast then J8 is not for you.
