I recently visit Triund with a bunch of my friends and I must say it was an epic experience. If you are planning of visiting Dharamshala or McLeod Ganj then Triund Hill is a much visit place. If you reading this article then you must know basic things about Triund that its a hill around 10Km away from McLeod Ganj in which a 6 KM is a gradual trek which is easy to moderate. So without wasting any time, let’s talk about 5 things you should know.

  1. Temperature: Cold weather is not an issue if you visiting in June but it could get a little bit tough in case of rain. I visit Triund on 19thof June and it was 6 degree in the middle of the night that too outside the tent. I didn’t notice any major cold weather issue there expect in the morning but that too is quite tolerable. A full cleave shirt or a sweater in the worst case is adequate. Do search for weather conditions before packing. If you staying overnight at the top then rest assure along with tent they also provide warm sleeping bags. In months other than June there gonna be some cold issue.

  1. Over Pricing: The biggest problem I and my friends face there was of over pricing. we didn’t pack many eatables with us so we have to buy everything on the way. At Triund most shopkeeper charge more than MRP (Maximum retail price), generally twice or more. For example, a 20 rupees water bottle cost 50 while a Cup of tea is of 35 rupees. There are some shops on the way which let you take water from their filters at 20 bucks in case you wanna save some money. On the way, you will find many shops while at the top there are only two or three. Being a remote area overpricing is quite justifiable.

  1. Food: After 5 hours of trekking it obvious you gonna feel hungry. At top of the hill, you didn’t get many choices when it comes to desi food. You can either order Rajma Chawal (Red kidney beans) or Mah ki dal (Black gram dal) which cost 150 rupees per plate. Maggi is also available at 80 rupees. Other than these you can have sandwiches, egg, egg roll, omelet, tea etc. The food is quite tasty. Most shops have your favorite snacks so don’t worry about them.

  1. Tent and Cab: You have to take a Cab from McLeod Ganj which will drop you at the base from where you can start trekking. It will cost around 400-500 Indian rupees or you can simply skip the whole Cab hiring process and reach base by walking. I would suggest you should hire cab while going because it will save time plus energy and skip it while coming back. If you planning on staying overnight at the top then you have to book a tent which will cost around 500 to 1000 depending upon your group size. We pay 1000 rupees for three without any bargaining plus we booked in advance so you can understand there was some chance of a discount. You can book tent either from the offices of adventure companies situated nearby McLeod Ganj bus stop or at top of the hill (Not all the time obviously).

As you gonna trekking there thus make sure you have idle sports shoes, only pack important things to keep your bag lite, power bank, torch, medicines, some snacks are advisable.
